The town light’s are on, the markets are in full swing and every shop window is filled to the brim with gaudy decorations. It can only mean one thing…… CHRISTMAS!!!
This year I am trying as much as possible to support small business and buy all my gifts from local independent stores.
Here are some of my favourites!
Dundee
Cartocon
This quirky, independent menswear store is filled with unusual pieces and out-there designer brands. The ideal place to find something special for the fashion-savvy guy in your life!
129 Nethergate

The Butcher, The Baker
This independent butcher is the perfect spot to buy your Hogmanay steak pie. They also sell build-your-own hampers which you can fill with products from their store

Dreamland Clothing
Think bright colours, bold patterns and totally 90s nostalgia. Full of gifts for your favourite fashionista.
WASP Studios, Studio 308
West Hendersons Wynd, Dundee

The Little Green Larder
Dundee’s first zero waste shop. This is the perfect spot to find sustainable beauty products, household products and delicious food and treats! They will even gift wrap your purchases into gorgeous christmas hampers to make for the most thoughtful secret santa gift around!
272 Perth Road

The Sunflower Room
Give the gift of relaxation this Christmas with a voucher for a treatment at the Sunflower Room. From massages to pedicures and even treatments designed specifically for the men in your life – there is something here for everyone!
Indigo House
A treasure trove of jewellery, knick-knacks, gift cards, interior decorations and one-off pieces, the team at Indigo House pride themselves on their ethical wares and bohemian style.
The DCA Gift Shop

Hayley Scanlan
The Cheesery
A local favourite, it is not unusual for there to be queues down the street outside this place on Christmas Eve! Treat your cheese-loving friends to a selection of their smelly favourites or buy them a gift voucher so they can select their own.
Online
Books that Matter
This feminist book subscription service sends a new title to your door every month. I got a 6 month subscription for my birthday this year and it was the gift that kept on giving. This is the perfect gift for an avid reader who wants to keep up with the latest publications and explore outside of the canon.
Tessa Metcalfe Jewellery
If you are splashing the cash for a jewellery fanatic this christmas, consider the totally unique designs of Tessa Metcalfe. All her pieces are inspired by pigeon claws – trust me they are far more beautiful than they sound!
Wera Clay
These Glasgow based artists make the most colourful handcrafted clay earrings. I bought a pair earlier this year and they quickly became my go-to party favourites. They are even open to commissions if you have a specific design in mind!
Pot Yer Tits Away Luv
These adorable little tit pots are the perfect accessory. Put a wee cactus in it, use it to store pencils or paperclips on your desk or set it pride of place up on your mantelpiece for your inlaws to admire. Emma’s pots embrace boobs in all shapes, sizes and skin tones, you can even commission one inspired by your own! She only updates her shop occasionally though so keep eye out.
Nmarra Earrings
These totally bold brass earrings are another favourite of mine, check out the website to see all their fabulous geometric styles.
*All of these are either places I love to shop at or have been recommended to me by friends.
